When you think about addiction, you probably think about alcohol, drugs, and/or food. However, there are numerous things to which we can become addicted: drama, sickness, lack, fear, abuse, being a victim, etc. We don’t often think of those in terms of addiction. But, they are real too.


Addiction is a form of automatically programming yourself to be limited. When you go back from there and ask why would someone do that, the answer is typically unworthiness. When you go back and look at where that came from, it typically surrounds the person’s beliefs about themselves related to God/Creator/Source and the fear(s) that they don’t measure up and what that means to their meaning of life. If you then address their beliefs about those things, you can break the pattern of addiction. However, another facet of addiction is to change the addictive behavior of the cells as well.

Science has proven that our cells exhibit addictive behavior. We teach our cells what we “desire” by the feelings we have associated with events in our lives. The more frequently we have a particular feeling, the more likely the cells will generate a receptor site for that feeling. Then, if you do not provide that feeling, your cells react and actually move you to again fulfill their need for that feeling. Wow.

So, what is the answer? Re-program the cell receptor sites for a new vibration, a new frequency, a new feeling. Every feeling has a vibration. The closer you are feeling to joy and unconditional love, the higher the frequency/vibration. The closer to fear, the lower. That, then, allows you to choose what you are feeling in order to re-program or re-calibrate the addictive nature of the cells responding to what you have subconsciously programmed via your past thoughts and, hence, feelings.

There may also be a genetic factor. Many addicts find that if they disconnect from one addiction, they substitute another. They also find that it is a constant struggle to not go back to the original addiction. One big dramatic or traumatic event can push them back. Why? Because they tend to look at the addictive behavior as an escape from that drama and trauma. They don’t feel worthy or strong enough or even willing to face it head on. Escape has proven to be easier. And, they feel they deserve that escape. They don’t deserve all the things going on in their lives. They deserve to be happy and addiction is the best way they have come up with to handle it quickly. That’s right, quickly – a key component. They may have this as a learned response or they may have a genetic pre-disposition to handle stress and unexpected life events in this way.

And, for alcohol especially, there is the social component. For eons, alcohol had been used to break down barriers, to bond people, and to celebrate. Many deals were made over mead or whatever. To toast to that union was considered a binding agreement. So, with some addictions, there will also be the cultural and environmental component to clear and resolve before the re-patterning can become complete. If this is the case, be sure to teach the person how to move forward without this social component and what that feels like and give them truth on how they will be “judged” for not using it in the typically accepted social way. People tend to fear judgment until they know they can live without it. They also tend to judge themselves until they know better. Teach them both and that they are already enough just as they are and without the need of “social props”.

Disengagement from and re-patterning addictive behaviors of all types is possible and it is possible without any lingering struggle. This is not a call to dismiss current therapies of any type that are helping people. However, there are other ways to work with these behaviors and/or to supplement current therapies. Whatever works. Addictive behaviors limit you and keep you small. Why would that serve you? Well, from a higher perspective, it doesn’t. You can also download the person with whatever lessons they still need related to “taking on” and/or allowing addictive behaviors. There are many component parts to addiction since it goes so deep to the core (typically to their beliefs about God and their relationship to God). Not everyone is the same nor do they come to addictive tendencies for the same reasons. Always ask. Ask why and ask how best to assist. Then do as you are guided from within a space of pure unconditional love which can hold no judgment. It just is. Everyone deserves to be happy and to experience life from a space of joy and wonder and good abundance. Releasing addictive behaviors is an excellent start for someone who doesn’t feel that in their life now.

I realize that this doesn’t begin to address it all.  However, it’s a start. Creator will guide you as you work with people with addiction. And, as I write this, I am guided to add for your consideration “I am addicted to my own righteousness.” That could also be expanded to being addicted to “being right”. Wow. Yet another way to be addicted.  For whoever needs to see this for their client, I’m so glad you are reading!

How To Use ThetaHealing On Yourself

One of the things people in ThetaHealing® classes want to know the most is how to work on themselves. It was what I wanted to know when I began my Theta journey. In the classes I took, we were taught that it is more difficult to work on yourself. Well, I went home and thought about that and I clearly heard (for the first time!) “That’s just a belief!” and I cleared it and instilled that I could easily and effectively work on myself. And, that’s just what I’ve done ever since! I didn’t have a burning desire to offer healing to others when I began. I wanted to help myself and I wasn’t particularly interested in having to find a partner to do that all the time. So, I had to find a way to work on myself that would be successful. And, Creator provided it even before I had cleared enough to feel connected to my own intuition and confident with it.

When people begin, they often feel like they have to be in a certain place with particular music playing softly in the background, with a lovely scented candle burning, with their eyes closed, in order to connect in. Those are beliefs too. You can effectively connect in any time and any place.

However, start with the familiar. Change your beliefs about having to have any of that in place, but use it until you get comfortable connecting. Having your eyes closed helps many to move beyond the distractions. Having soft beautiful music playing gives the mind something to do while you are busy. A lovely scent can help other parts of you relax. Whatever you have found that works to get you relaxed and capable of getting into the Theta brainwave is useful so use it.

I began by getting comfortable sitting on my bed. I played the same music (Reiki Chants) every time so that my mind became accustomed to it and knew what we were going to do as soon as it began to play. It helped to instantly connect me over a short time. I had my laptop on my lap. I would connect to the Theta brainwave and to Creator and establish my intention to know what I needed to work on that day. At first, the beliefs did not just flow into my conscious awareness. So, I would look at my day or the past day or so to see where there was something that did not sit just right. I would ask myself, “What is this pointing out to me?” “What beliefs are associated with this issue/event/discussion/etc?” and I would write them down. At first, it did seem like it was my mind coming up with the beliefs. But, I trusted this process (as it was the only logical one I could come up with and my intuitive gifts were not yet evident!). When I had my list, I would re-connect to Creator and pull those beliefs. At that time, I didn’t realize that I also would be well served to download the appropriate replacement but that’s a story for another time! The bottom line is to make that download list too so that you both pull the beliefs and download replacements. As you get more skilled with this process, and you believe in yourself more, add in pulling associated negative feelings and downloading appropriate feelings to replace them.

There were some days when it seemed like life was good and there was nothing to look at. But, of course, we know there always is something! So I would set my intention to take one of the books I had and that when I opened it, it would magically open to the page that would identify what the day’s topic would be. You can also set it so that the topic shows up in music or TV or in discussions with others. Just have your intention be that and then look for it! If you don’t consciously seek it, the topic will show but you just may miss it.

I also find books like Disease and Disorders and Advanced ThetaHealing by Vianna Stibal are great to use if you get stuck. Begin to explore the beliefs listed in them and go from there. When you are more skilled, you will find that beliefs are everywhere just jumping out at you if you will allow it. You will hear someone say something and you will feel just a touch of discomfort. Use what they said as a starting point to find out why it made you uncomfortable. And, please, do be aware when you listen to music that there are a lot of negative statements being sung for your listening pleasure! You’ll find a lot of beliefs to clear there.

There are times when you are having an issue that you will want to work/play with someone else. Your ego is amazingly creative and inventive. If there is something that you are really afraid to look at, your ego can mask it in a variety of ways. It can take some skill to uncover so, at first, if you are getting stuck, call a friend and work on it together. Often, your own beliefs about judgment and your own worth will surface at these times. So, it is also helpful to sit with your laptop and list how you feel about being judged and how you feel about yourself. Be REALLY honest. It’s just you and Creator and Creator already knows! When you find negative feelings, use the digging process with yourself to get to the core beliefs and then clear them.

How do you dig on yourself? Say you had the belief “I am afraid of dogs.” Type the digging questions (who, what, when, where, why, how did it make you feel, etc) one at a time and type your answer after it. It will help you become adept at digging and will also get you to your core beliefs – a win-win – and we love those!

I teach these tips in my ThetaHealing® classes to help students become confident in their own abilities. As you work on yourself, you will find that you just naturally shift into wanting to help others too. The world becomes lighter and brighter and more fun and you allow the energy of your soul to more fully show in the here and now. It’s a really beautiful thing.
