Evidently, a lot of us are being encouraged to “take a second look”. We are conditioned in multiple ways to judge and evaluate any issue that comes up in our lives. We tend to do this instinctually, culturally, environmentally, and in other ways as we evaluate the impact on our safety and quality of life. That’s not a “bad” thing. In fact, over time, it has served us well. But now, we are being encouraged to not automatically fall into the parameters of the past and the criteria that we have used to evaluate and judge and then immediately act upon. At first glance, some issue may seem overwhelming, insurmountable, awful, etc. However, upon re-evaluation, you may find that the situation actually turns out for your highest and best. All you need to do is ask. What does this circumstance bring for you?
Let me give you a fluff example that just happened to me. Because of the air flow in my home, the shower curtain loves to “hug” me. Needless to say, that is very distracting and not particularly pleasant while trying to enjoy a shower. I had been to a bath store and had gotten a package of four clips specifically designed to help with this issue. They, however, were designed to semi-permanently attach to the tub. I didn’t want to do that. So, I attached them only as weights. That helped but they weren’t heavy enough to do the job completely. I decided to get another package of them. But, the store was out. The old paradigm of evaluating this was something along the lines of “Aaaargh. Now I have to go elsewhere and it will take time and I am really not interested…etc.”. But, this time, I decided to choose to believe that the store was out because there was a better option for me. This happened automatically for me since I have looked at this issue before for myself. Sure enough, I found I needed to go to another store for something else. While looking for what I needed, I saw a package of six vibrantly colorful clips with magnets designed to secure bags of chips and such. I was so drawn to this package I immediately asked if I should get them and got “yes!”. Now, I don’t really understand a clip for chips with a magnet. Do you attach them to the fridge where the salsa lives? I don’t know! But, I knew these clips would be perfect to hang on the shower curtain. And YEA. They work perfectly and they are really pretty. So, perfect!
When you are dealing with something other than a “fluff” issue, like a potentially serious medical issue, you may find it more difficult to do this. Why? Because you tend to immediately step into the negative and expected emotions of it. If you can step outside of those emotions and ask what the higher view is, you may just find that the situation brings you the best result. You may still have a little to go through, but with the higher perspective and the understanding of the much better outcome for you, you find you can use the skills that you have to not “fight” it (as in fighting cancer). Ask what this brings to your life. Ask to have conscious awareness of the gift it brings to you. When you receive those answers, the entire situation changes, even if you find that you still have the physical to deal with in some respect. You may be clear enough and trust enough to be able to completely shift whatever it is on every level – physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. But, you may not be there – yet. If not, don’t despair. Use this situation to practice compassion for yourself, gratitude for those who are helping you cope, and understanding of a higher perspective.
As you become aware of this type of shift in thinking and evaluation of life situations, if you choose to shift your own thinking, it will become easier and easier until it is automatic. Ultimately, you will shift enough that you do not need any life experiences other than those you consciously desire.
Some spiritual concepts are easier to grasp than others for most people. When you are immersed in the emotions and/or pain, you may find it challenging to “step outside” of them to view what is happening. With practice, you can do it and it will be so worth it. Don’t judge yourself. You came here to learn. That’s what this is – a type of learning. Once you “get it”, it’s a more loving and stress-free way to embrace your world and the experiences of those around you. It will positively impact your ability to address the situation. And, you will begin to enjoy looking at life from this perspective.
